Kickstarter 2013! - The video was supposed to be the easy part!!

Hi.

The video is not the easy part.

I wrote a script. Cleaned it up. Typed it and printed it out. Rehearsed it. Thought of an elaborate, high-production movie... Scouted for locations... I even donned my good luck necklace from the Dominican Republic! I even combed my beard!!

Here's the only salvageable bits of my labor:

I'm in day three of trying to film this video. And it's finally occurred to me that scripts are just not my thing. And neither is video making.

So I'm just going to draw and shoot. It can't turn out worse than what I've done so far.

Wish me luck.

  1. That is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Seriously. I laughed myself right out of my chair.

I am thinking voice-over is the way to go.... along with your cool pictures. What do you think????

In other news, I dedicated something to you on the Thursday post. Hope you like it!

  2. I forgot to tell you that I did end up writing that post from your blog comment. It precedes the Thursday post and is called Life Is Not Fair.

    1. I'm glad my efforts resulted in something!! Voice over is absolutely the way to go, letting Tracy's art do the heavy lifting.

I'm heading to your blog now!

  3. Dude! Screw the fantasy books!!! I believe we've just discovered the next Seth MacFarlane or [Insert your favorite talented and brilliant comedic film writer/director/producer]!!!

That was sheer and absolute comedic genius!

(And on a not-unrelated-related note: Several of my coworkers are now sure I'm insane because of my sputtering failed attempts to not laugh. ...I may have wet myself slightly...)

    1. errr.. "on a not-entirely-unrelated note"

Sorry -- I'm still giggling too hard to think coherently...

    2. Hahahaaha Thanks Chris... It really is comforting to know that day wasn't a total loss. And I promise - Any comedic genius was purely accidental. I cut out the parts where I looked over my shoulder every 2 seconds, making sure I truly was all alone in the woods... But I wonder what I looked like, out there talking to a camera mounted to a bicycle helmet mounted on a sign post.

    1. Hahaha.. Don't tempt me. I'm so frustrated with the video process I just might use this one.

  5. A good friend of mine works in LA in the movie industry, and it's crazy the amount of work that goes into even just a short film. Power to you for trying!

    1. Some friends and I have actually filmed a ninja movie in the woods where I was trying to film this... And it was a sloppy mess!
Robin was right... Voice over with a montage is the way to go

  6. Ha! This was fun to watch. I couldn't even make one that well. Good luck. Oh, I read your excerpt...very nice. I felt as if I were in the woods hunting elk in the rain. I put an excerpt of my current WIP on my blog...let me get the link...okay, got it...feel free to take a read.
