April 12 - K

Killer Instinct (Rare, Midway) - Originally an arcade game, it was ported to consoles in 1995.  It was unique amongst fighting games like Street Fighter, Tekken and Mortal Kombat in that it featured insane combination attacks.  There was no comparable feeling to battling a total stranger in an arcade and hurling a 112 hit combination of punches, kicks and bites at him, followed by uppercutting him off a skyscraper... I don't actually know that feeling because I was the one getting demolished.  And it was still awesome!

Special Mentions: Kingdom Hearts - These games have amazing soundtracks and a wide range of memorable characters.

Killswitch Engage - One of my favorite metal bands of all time.  I've seen them twice... The first time was at the Tabernacle in Atlanta, GA.  My ears rang for almost a week.  The band I was in before my current band covered this song, known by some as "Metal for Dummies" or entry-level metal.  That was back when I played guitar.  **Shameless self pic to follow!**
I promise I'm not sleeping. That's vocalist Frazee on right.
- ShatterPath - 2008ish -

Special Mentions: Korn, The Killers, KISS

  1. You rock - KillSwitch Engage is one of MY favorite bands! Never had the opportunity to see them play, but maybe someday.

    1. Considering your other tastes, I thought you might approve! Wear earplugs or balled up napkins or something... They're freaking loud.

  2. I went back and looked through some of your post, and I've got to say, I'm seriously digging your theme for the challenge. You've highlighted some of my favorite games and bands already, and I can't wait to see what else you have scheduled.

I love Killer Instinct by the way. It was one of those games I remembered playing until well past midnight, learning the moves and how to chain those combos. Sweet memories. Oh, yeah, and Killswitch Engage totally rock! \m/

    1. I'm glad you're digging it, bro! Killer Instinct was one of the few fighting games where I literally tried learning every fighter's moves, not just a few. But B. Orchid may have been my fave... I mean she turns into a panther.
      Thanks for stopping by!
